Process Portrait: Portrait I

Process Portrait is an ongoing project in which I work with ideas of recording, decision making and autobiography through the technique of damask weaving. Damask is a very old handweaving technique in which the pattern of the work is determined as the weaving occurs. I have worked instinctively to spontaneously create patterns using this technique, so that the resulting fabric becomes a sort of diary, not only of the weaving process itself, but also of the visual influences that have led me to those decisions. It is a self-portrait of the artist, and one of the society that created her.
